From the Vice President

August 2014

2014 has been busy thus far for the Allante’ Atlanta Car Club (AACC). And, we aren’t finished yet. Okay, so far this year we enjoyed: our Annual Winter Dinner in January; participated in the Peach State’s CLC Chili Cook-Off in February. In March we visited Madison, GA and toured historic homes, spent two fun-filled and enjoyable days in April at the Atlanta Motor Speedway for the first Atlanta Motorama; toured the Hills and Dales Estate and Gardens in May; and toured the Swan House and Smith Farm at the Atlanta History Center and really ENJOYED lunch at Mary Mac’s Tea Room in June.

In July we intended to head north to Tennessee to experience the Tennessee Whiskey Trail and to “taste a little” of George Dickel’s, Jack Daniels and Pritchard’s fine whiskeys at their distilleries. Unfortunately we had to postpone that trip due to significant bad weather in Tennessee.

Our August cruise will be a local event to the world-famous Varsity for a lunch of hamburgers, hot dogs and other fine cuisine. Then on to the High Museum of Art to tour the Dream Car Exhibit. Although August is a hot month for Atlanta, the air conditioning awaits us to enjoy our day in Atlanta.

September 2-7 is the 10th Cadillac Allante’ XLR Club National Meet in Steubenville/Cleveland, Ohio. The Allante’s and XLRs will cruise among other activities, the birthplace of singer Dean Martin, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and tour the City of Cleveland by Lolly Trolley. Friday, September 5 is the Reception with Saturday the 6th is the car show in Little Italy with the Banquet and Awards that evening at the host hotel, the Double Tree. Be sure to check the Cadillac Allante XLR Club for registration and full agenda. Johnny Monzo is doing a great job of pulling Allante’s together for a fun National Meet.

September 20 is our Tech Session Day being held at the Vopelak’s. I’m sure we will have a good turnout for Allante’ technical discussions, hands-on work, some leather restoration and other Allante’ needs. Be sure to mark your appointment schedules for this full day. Russell is working on the schedule with Art and Doug.

October 17th is our Fall Cruise to Chimney Rock State Park and Little Switzerland, NC. We will be hosting the South Carolina and Florida Clubs as we drive through the beautiful mountains of North Carolina enjoying the magnificent fall colors. But wait, we are also going to drive the famous Diamondback Motorcycle and Sports Car Route on Saturday to test our endurance, driving skills, and the thrills of switchback curves, twisting roads and gorgeous scenery. As of this printing we have thirty-four folks signed up for our weekend in the mountains. If you haven’t signed up yet, you still have until September 1st to make your reservation at the Switzerland Inn (800-654-4026). You can send your registration in to Paula no later than August 15th. Questions? Contact Paula or email us via the website.

November is our Thanksgiving Breakfast Meeting only. Because on December 5 and 6 we are heading to the Biltmore Estate for the Candlelight Tour and hosting the Peach State Cadillac and LaSalle Region. You’ll be seeing more information relative to our hosting duties and the fun we will experience at our Annual Christmas Cruise.

If you haven’t participated with us thus far this year, you still have time to join us for the Fall and Winter activities. Your Allante’ will thank you for the fun you both will have. And your Allante’ friends will enjoy your company.
