AACC to Visit Serenbe Farms

May the Luck of the Irish be with ye!!

Serenbe was developed by Steve Nygren, a businessman who had built up and sold the Pleasant Peasant restaurant chain. Nygren bought a weekend home and land in the area, and in 1994 moved there full-time. In 1996 Nygren and his family opened the Serenbe Bed & Breakfast. The name "Serenbe" was his wife Marie's idea, and refers to the serenity of the location.

Serenbe has drawn national attention as an example of New Urbanism in the South. With its organic farm and land-use plan that encourages conservation of agricultural land, Serenbe is at the same time an example of development-supported agriculture, a nascent movement in real estate development that preserves and invests in agricultural land use. The village is also noted as a destination for visitors seeking to experience its New Urbanist design, its natural setting and its farm-to-table restaurants, shopping and accommodations.

We'll meet for breakfast at the Dwarf House in Hapeville (the original Dwarf House). We will then head to the English-style Village of Serenbe in the Chattahoochee Hills area to explore the "live, play, work the farm and enjoy nature" community. Although we are a bit early for the May farm tours, we can at least explore the three hamlets and see the proposed newest hamlet, Mado. We plan to enjoy luncheon at the Farmhouse in Serenbe.

If the group has the time and desire we could also visit Dunaway Gardens, a restored rock and floral garden in Rosco, GA (a short drive away).

Hopefully the weather will cooperate and we can enjoy "tops down" with our Allante's.

We look forward to seeing you at the original Chick-fil-A Dwarf House!
