November 2013

I have been a car nut all my life.  My earliest memories involve cars.  I’ve always liked cars that were different or rare.  My Allanté is my fourth convertible.  My other collectible car is a 1992 Jaguar XJS V12 convertible.  I have admired the Allanté from the beginning, seeing ads on TV and reading about them in car magazines.

I remember where I was the first time I saw an Allanté.  I lived in Tampa, FL at the time.  I was returning to the office one afternoon and the Allante’ was ahead of me in traffic.  I thought it was amazing then and still do.

In a way, my Allanté found me.  Jason Tannehill, one of the sales managers, drove up in his Allante’ one day.  I asked about it, and he told me the story.  His Dad, Jan Tannehill, was the original owner and was an executive with the Buick/Cadillac division when he joined the Allanté program at its beginning.  He was at the ground-breaking ceremony at the new plant in San Giorgio, Italy.  Jan continued to visit the plant, monthly, throughout the remainder of the program.  When the Allanté program ended he retired from GM.  That’s when Jan bought this car for his wife, Sharon.  VIN # 125500 was built in April ’92.  They enjoyed the car until he died several years ago.  After that, she lost interest in the car.

When her kids would come over she would have them take the Allante’ out for a drive to keep it healthy.  In the spring of 2012 she gave the car to her son, Jason.  That was when he told me he was going to sell it the following year.  In February, I started asking about it.  It took until June, before he felt like I was the right buyer. My Allanté is polo green with charcoal/black interior and black soft top.  I’ve been told that is a rare combination.  It has the digital dash and stock painted wheels.  It is a very nice example.  When I bought the Allante’ in June, it only had a little over 42k miles.  I now have just over 45k on my Allante’.

It has been an enjoyable summer.  I hope to have many more.

Editors note: Bill has been a great addition to our club. Since he's purchased his Allante, Bill's shown his car at numerous car shows and he has stacked up several trophies todate. In fact, Bill had the opportunity this past summer to have his car photographed at the Italian Embassy in Washington DC. Next time you see Bill be sure to ask him to see the great presentation material he has put together that talks about the Allante and provides car enthusiasts with a great deal of information on the Allante.
